"Must Love Dogs"

Here we are relaxing by the Beautiful snake river

In July I spent a week with 3 of my Sisters at a Hot Springs resort along the beautiful Snake River in Idaho. This is an annual event and there are usually seven of us, but Carolyn is on a Mission and KarLee and Kathy had other commitments. We love to spend this time together catching up, playing games, reading, soaking in the natural mineral water (to sooth all our aches and pains) and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. This year I particularly enjoyed the song birds early in the morning and also towards dusk. In the past we have stayed in dome shaped yurts or cabins or motor homes, this year we used Jason's Motor home. It is about 23 years old,Jason affectionately calls it "The Rolling Turd". It has a few funky problems, but it was just right for the three of us (Patsy drove back to Wendell each night so Mack would not be alone).

Sooo-here is the point of this blog: I do not hate dogs, I am however annoyed when people bring their dogs to public places and expect everybody to be as thrilled with their dog as they are! I especially hate it when each perso believes that THEIR dog is the exception to the rule.ie: Last year we went to a spa that had a BIG sign we had to walk past, brushing our shoulders against it, actually that said "No dogs allowed" I said"Marilyn, it says no dog allowed ( I think they meant it too because there were 3 gigantic alligators on the property!!) So Marilyn ( with the dog tucked under her arm) says"Her is not a dog, Her is my baby" and then just walked on past the sign and the alligators and everything! As it turned out this year I was the only one who did not bring a dog! I was completely out numbered! So as the week went on and I tried to bite my tongue when they were telling cute dog stories and look away when they had use plastic bags to pick up dog doodie off the lawn. The clincher was the day we stopped at a grocery store to get supplies (for our traditional BLT Sandwiches) and after I checked out I looked back and all three of them were pawing through a table of dog accessories. There were squeekie toys, leashes, pink sparkly collars, and even doggy clothing. They were going wild--they each got about ten things for their respective dog! I couldn't believe it!So as the week went on, I really tried to see what it was about these little dogs that brought my sisters so much pleasure. I also remembered the little dogs we had when I was growing up ( Suzie and Christie) . Those dogs were great company to me -- I was much MUCH younger than my sisters and spent alot of time alone. Those little dogs had to put up with being dressed up and made to do tricks and be in "Shows" that I made my family come and watch etc.So I came to peace with vacationing with my three sisters and their three dogs. I also reserve the right to get myself a little dog someday. But not,of course, until I am much MUCH older!

OOOOH My GOSH! Mom ,those pics of you when you were little with your puppies...to DIE for! SO SO CAYUTE!!! I'm so glad you had som much fun with your sisters, even if you did have to stay in the rolling turd, and even if Aunt Marilyn pee'd in the shower becasue she couldn't turn around in the motor-home lavatory. What fun you have! I can't wait till me and Steph can have sisters retreats with AMy and Kristen...it will be SO fun. By the way, just be prepared that if you do get a little yappy dog, just know that we will all roll our eyes when its you saying..."Her's not a dog, her is a baby" and you will be thrilled when our kids give you doggy baby clothes for the miniature beast. I'm not a dog hater either...but when you DO get a dog, I'll know then that you are REALLY OLD!!! Love you mom! What a fun post! I say again, LOVE LOVE LOVE the pics of you as a little girl, adorable!

That was such a good post! Love that you guys do that every year, it's so great. Sisters are the best, even when there is a big age difference.

I wonder which reunion you will show up with your dog?

Those pictures of you with your dog, as Court said, are to die for! I love them!

This is such a great post! I love the pictures of you as a little girl, so cute. I am in total agreement with you on the dog thing as you well know. Someday though maybe we can take our dogs with us on our walk???

I forgot to tell you last night that Melanie noticed, as have I, that you do not have me listed as a friend on your blog, what is up with that?

I love your blog, LeAnn! This post and the pictures of you as a youngster were adorable. You are a very good storyteller. And that reminds me, I loved the video books you did for your grandchildren -- that you showed in an earlier post. You are very talented!
